As County Surveyor,  you’ll play a key role in shaping local development and maintaining critical public records.  You’ll be entrusted with:

  • Maintaining section corner records for all surveyed land in the county
  • Supervising county drainage systems, including regulated drains and legal ditches
  • Providing expert input on road and bridge projects, plat reviews, and land development
  • Serving on the County Drainage Board and participating in planning commissions
  • Advising on floodplain and land-use decisions


This position is essential to managing growth,  supporting agriculture,  and preserving property rights across the county.


Who Can Run?

To run for County Surveyor in Indiana, you must:

  • Be a registered voter and resident of the county
  • Meet any licensing or professional requirements set by state law (in most counties,  this means being a licensed land surveyor or appointing a qualified deputy if not)
  • Be eligible to hold public office under Indiana statutes


Surveyors are elected to a four-year term,  with no restriction on the number of terms they may serve.


What’s the Compensation?

The salary for the County Surveyor is set by the county council and in 2024 was $44,188.00. 

This is a full-time role,  offering stable income,  benefits,  and the ability to contract for private surveying work under certain conditions.
