Important Note:
Due to changes in Indiana law,
Senate Bill 287 now allows school board candidates to
declare their political party affiliation on the ballot. While we
do not believe politics belongs in school board service, we feel it’s important to share this update so that potential candidates are
fully informed and
not discouraged by a lack of accessible information.
School board members play a vital role in shaping the education, safety, and success of our community’s children. Responsibilities include:
Approving school budgets and policies
Hiring and evaluating the superintendent
Setting goals and vision for academic excellence and student well-being
Listening to parents, teachers, and students and making decisions in the best interest of all
To run, you must be:
A
resident of the school district
A registered voter in Indiana
Eligible to hold public office under state law
School board members typically serve four-year terms, with non-partisan responsibilities, regardless of party declaration.
